  • What is the Draw Tite Activator IV Brake Controller
  • The Activator IV part # 5504 that you referenced is a time delayed brake controller designed to activate the electric brakes of a trailer in a smooth, controlled manner. Check out the FAQ article I attached on brake controllers to see more information on them. The Activator IV is what is considered a time-delayed brake controller. With Time Delayed trailer brake controllers, once the brake pedal is stepped on, the pre-determined amount of power (which is set by the user, based on trailer...

  • Should Trailer Brakes Alone Be Able to Stop 2004 Dodge Ram Pickup and 6500-lb Travel Trailer
  • The electric brakes on your trailer are not intended to stop your entire rig - both your 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 Pickup and your hitched 6500-lb travel trailer - just the trailer itself. Your truck's hydraulic brakes have far more stopping power than the trailer's, which are generally going to be rated only for the trailer's axle weight capacity, not that plus your truck's considerable weight. In normal driving conditions you will apply the truck's brakes and adjust the brake controller so...

  • What Trailer Weight Requires Brakes
  • In the USA a tandem axle utility trailer with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 7500-lbs should have brakes installed. Any trailer over 3000-lbs must have brakes on all wheels in most states, but laws do vary. Some states require braked axles on trailers with a GVW as low as 2000-lbs; other states have a higher limit. It is best to check with authorities in your local area. The weight of the tow vehicle can come into play here too. Often the gross weight of any such trailer without...

  • What is the Maximum Amperage Draw of Trailer Brake Magnets on a Tandem Trailer with Four Brake Drums
  • Maximum amperage draw for 4 Brakes that are 10 or 12 inch diameter is 15.0 to 16.3 amps at 12 to 13 volts. The 14 gauge wire may be sufficient but for maximum braking effectiveness at full load capacity. I would opt to run 10 gauge wire. Larger wire will only help the effectiveness of the trailer brake system and 10 gauge is what we use when installing trailer brakes even on single brake axles with 7 inch brake assemblies. We offer Jacketed 2 Wire, 10 Gauge, Brake Wire, item # 10-2-1,...

This set of left and right hand assemblies are the top of the line option for your 2015 R-Pod 179 trailer. Once you install them and they get broken in you will never have to mess with them again. If you are wanting the most affordable option, then I would go with the etrailer Electric Trailer Brake Kit item # AKEBRK-35. This is still a great set of brakes they just won't have the self adjusting...

  • Does Brake Assembly to Brake Drum Dimension Need to be Verified When Adding Brakes to Trailer
  • I am not sure which exact dimension you are looking for but the good news is that if you have properly installed brake mounting flanges there would be no need to verify clearance between the brake assemblies and the drums as all of that would be positioned correctly. I attached a help article on adding brakes to a trailer for you to check out as well.

  • 2016 Chevy Equinox Towing Weight Limit for Trailers Without Brakes
  • The online edition of the owner's manual for your 2016 Chevrolet Equinox does indicate on page 193 that the maximum trailer weight that can be towed is 1000-lbs if the trailer itself does not have brakes. The vehicle certainly can tow more weight than this, up to 3500-lbs for the V6 version towing a trailer WITH brakes, but the issue here is stopping power and control rather than the sheer muscle to pull the trailer. The vehicle itself has a curb weight of about 3700- to 4000-lbs and a...

  • How to Measure Trailer Brake Drum for Electric Trailer Brake Assemblies
  • The inside diameter and the depth of the brake drum is what determines the necessary width of the brake pads. For example, the 10 inch x 2-1/4 inch Electric Brake Shoe, part number BP04-090 that you refer to would fit a brake drum with a 10 inch diameter and 2-1/4 inch depth.

  • How Much Brake Fluid Is Needed For Titan BrakeRite Electric Over Hydraulic Brake Actuator?
  • According to Dexter the BrakeRite # T4813102 actuator holds 0.7 quarts of DOT 3 or 4 brake fluid. Do remember this is only for the reservoir on the actuator itself. It does not include the amount of fluid you will need for the brake lines, and calipers or servos. The length and inner diameter of all the brakes lines along with the types of brakes is going to be different from trailer to trailer. If unsure of how much total fluid to get to fill all the lines and brakes you can should overestimate...

  • The Dexter Hydraulic Trailer Brake Kit # 23-398-399 is not free backing. So you will need a Solenoid Valve # T4748800 to prevent brake fluid from pushing out of the Actuator # T43397007K and allowing you to reverse with the trailer.

  • Weight Rating For the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Assembly part # 23-469
  • The 10" Nev-R-Adjust Electric Brake Assembly # 23-469 does not have a brake horsepower rating, but it does have a weight rating. This assembly is designed to be used on a 3,500 lb trailer axle. If you trailer has a 3,500 lb rated axle and you are not overloading it this assembly would work great. The magnet sensitivity is setup so that at full 12 volts the assembly will be applying max braking power. Any less than that will be related to that. So at 6 volts you would get half braking power etc.
